Kids Room | Design Ideas #1

This year we really need to finish the kids room, two of them. The first is for The Boy who already in his adolescent years, and the other is for The Girl, 5 year old, with her princesses fairy tale and all.

Well, blog the ideas might be a very good thing to start it all, and the universe will do the rest, right? Hello Sun, Moon, Sky, Stars, Rainbow, Momma needs your help here!!

First I need to write down their characteristics and create some mood boards to do the room design. Guess it helps me a lot as the designer.

THE BOY

+ 14 going on 15
+ Loves books, very serious with great sense of humor
+ Dinosaurs
+ Minecraft
+ History
+ Military
+ World Leaders
+ Words Wizard
+ Internet Savvy
+ Geeky

>> BLUE BLACK WHITE | VINTAGE-WORLD TRAVELER-FDR

Mood Board #1 | The Boy

THE GIRL
+ 5 going on 6
+ Loves to sing, a singer in the making
+ My Little Pony
+ Princess Sofia
+ Candy
+ Math Prodigy
+ Swimming
+ Dragon Valley
+ Social Person

>> PINK PURPLE WHITE | SHABBY CHIC-DREAMY

Mood Board #1 | The Girl

Wait... how come we raise a completely different type of kids? But they complete each other perfectly. And both love Minecraft-don't-ask-me-why.

Love them so very much ;)

#JHouse Magazine Coverage: Behind The Scenes

A couple of months ago, we had Indesign Indonesia, an Australian based architecture and design magazine, call and visit us here in #JHouse. They want to do the article about #JHouse architecture and interior design, such honor!

Then we have to do pretty hectic preparations for the photo shoots with some supports from family and friends.

His parents, both are respected painters AD Pirous and Erna Garnasih Pirous, lend us some of their amazing paintings (and at the end they gave us one precious painting for our master bedroom, yippee...), my Mom, Laksmi Siregar, the senior architect, my inspiration, send people to help us out with the furniture and the house cleaning (Thanks, Mom!), my friend Tina from ToiMoi sent their upbeat collection to add the ones we already have, splash some strong fun and fresh pop style to the house interior (bear hugs!)

And for this, I dedicated some weekends (and nights) to paint the outer side of Mahesh room white. Paint it all by myself! Of course with some help from Mahesh and Alana, the cousin who lives at the next house. I also make over some tables with wood paint in white and black.

The preparations done in two weeks and the photo shoots that came after finished only two hours!

Thanks to Sunthy from Indesign Indonesia with her effort to write such a beautiful article. Reaaally LOVE the poetic title: Bare Warmth.

Such coolness!

Nature Friendly Working Space

As a Mom and architect, working from home by far is the best thing that I can do for the kids. I can do the endless overtime at home whenever I'm working on a project, while keep my children needs fulfilled. I only leave home whenever I need to do meetings with clients or going site visit. So, the first thing in my mind when I designed our house was creating a home working space for me and him. I also have a plan to hire some people in the future as my staff for the projects.

As year pass by, I changed my mind.  It seems now that I no longer need people working for me in the same room. As a team, we always work thru e-mail, send the drawing revisions and all using internet. Even to communicate with the mandor/contractor at Batu Karas, Pangandaran, working on Rumah Raia project, we use Whatsapp! They send me the project progress' pictures, even some short videos taken by mobile phone for me to see and make comments about it. Technically, I don't have to hire people for the time being, but then the room feels empty. I need  more people to work here, with me during day time. They don't have to be in the same working background as me. For as long as we can get along quite well, sharing knowledge, skills, share good energy, that would be nice.

Last week, I read this article about Hubud, the first coworking space in Ubud, Bali, in Indesign Indonesia magazine. It gave me the spirit to pursue the idea of making a coworking space in the #JHouse, with such ambience since our place in Ragunan has peaceful surroundings, with butterflies and dragonflies flying around. Not only that, one day I surely saw two storks (maybe they fly directly from the zoo nearby) walked around in our front yard with such pride.

And to add more values of the place, we can reach downtown in no time by taking the Trans-Jakarta with its walking distance stop, bring your bike to work and jog in Ragunan Zoo in daily basis, other than to go to the over crowded gym somewhere.

The place fits for writers or any other job that needs some silent sanctuary, people who like to improve their life quality by having a peaceful and secluded but accessible working place, and the beauty of it that the place still in Jakarta.

Roommark

#CatDindingRumah

Rumah

Rumah,
Pulang,
Berkumpul, bersenda gurau,

Rumah,
Nyaman dalam pelukmu,
Bersih dalam terangNya...

Rumah,
Aku, kamu, kita,

Cinta.
